Electrician in Lakewood, CO

Lakewood generates more panel-replacement enquiries than anywhere else we cover, and the housing stock explains why. Large parts of the city went up between the 1950s and 1970s, so the typical call involves an original or first-replacement panel that is now decades past its design life, a 100A service that was generous in 1962 and is not now, and ungrounded two-prong circuits throughout. The oldest homes add cloth-insulated conductors to that list. None of it is cause for alarm on its own, but it does mean the honest first step here is often an inspection rather than a quote, because what a realistic upgrade costs depends entirely on what is behind the panel cover and inside the walls. Newer infill around Belmar is straightforward capacity work by comparison. We are upfront about the drive: Lakewood is best booked as scheduled work, and we group jobs there into the same run where we can.

What Lakewood homes are like electrically

Lakewood is one of the older suburbs on the Front Range and the housing splits sharply by era. The post-war neighborhoods, roughly 1950s through 1970s, carry the classic problems: original or first-replacement panels now well past their service life, 100A services that are undersized for modern use, ungrounded two-prong circuits, and cloth-insulated conductors in the oldest stock. Belmar and the newer infill developments are a different job entirely, mostly capacity work. The volume of older housing is why panel replacement is far and away the most common request we get from this area.

Permits and inspections in Lakewood

City of Lakewood

Lakewood runs its own building division, separate from Jefferson County. Because a large share of the housing predates 1980, service and panel replacements make up much of the permitted work here, and those need utility coordination for the disconnect and reconnect alongside the city inspection. Rewiring and grounding work is also permitted. We file with the City of Lakewood, coordinate Xcel, and meet the inspector.

Permit rules and fees change. We confirm current requirements with the jurisdiction before every permitted job. See our permit guides.

We did not have power coming through a circuit in our garage. When I called on a Friday morning, I fully expected we would have to wait until after the weekend for an electrician to come out. But Jud was able to come diagnose the issue within just a few hours! I was very impressed, and so happy that he was also able to fix the problem very quickly. Jud was very professional, explained everything so well, and is very trustworthy.

I chose AllSafe Electric because their project proposal was the most detailed and comprehensive of those I received. Once the project began, I was thoroughly impressed by their expertise, workmanship, and attention to detail. An excellent experience. Most highly recommended.

We had a great experience with Allsafe Electric. At the initial consult, we discussed the work we wanted done, and Jud expertly explained the options for how he could get it done clean and cost effective. He didn't try to push or upsell anything. His estimate was clear and fair, and he was flexible when we asked to reschedule the date of work. Once scheduled he showed up right on time and did clean, quality work. The work included relocating our EV charger hookup, adding a new outlet, installation of both an interior and exterior ceiling fan box, a new ethernet cable plug, and a new outlet for an induction cooktop. Professional, communicative, and easy to work with. We'd absolutely use Allsafe again and recommend Jud to anyone in the Parker area.

Over the past couple years we have been stumbling through the repairs of construction defects. Many of those defects involved electrical. Along with new defects, we still have some old electrical that was not made up to date by the previous subcontractor. Judd and the AllSafe crew have helped navigate and make repairs as we find them. It’s been such a relief to have knowledgeable electricians help keep our family safe and regain some of our creature comforts. We appreciate knowing someone around we can count on for help. Thank you for your patients and empathy for us during all this. We really appreciates good people. Thank you. The Black Family

All Safe is a fantastic electrician company. They are great communicators as to when they will arrive and work in a clean orderly fashion. They installed new lighting fixtures, replaced a broken GFI, replaced switches, repaired an outlet. They did a great job I highly recommend them.

Judd was great. I called for an estimate, they came right out, game a good price, i hired them, they showed up right away, did a great job, took care of my gear and my dogs, and pleasure to work with. Allsafe installed a new 20-amp line for my stereo and installed a whole house surge protector and of course had to fix some issues with my breaker panel because my house was built recently by a homebuilder that took some short cuts.

Questions from Lakewood homeowners

Is Lakewood too far for you?

No, but we are straight about what the distance means. Scheduled work is easy to arrange and we group Lakewood jobs into one run where possible. For a genuine same-day emergency we will tell you honestly whether we can get there or whether someone closer serves you better.

My Lakewood home still has a fuse box. Does it have to be replaced?

In practical terms, yes. Fuse boxes are not inherently unsafe when intact, but they cannot support modern loads, most insurers now ask about them, and replacement parts are increasingly hard to source. A panel replacement also gets you grounding and AFCI or GFCI protection that a fuse box cannot provide.

What does an upgrade cost in an older Lakewood home?

It depends on what is found once the cover is off, which is why we recommend starting with an inspection. Service length, meter position, grounding condition and whether the circuits themselves need attention all move the number. You get a fixed written price before any work begins.

Are two-prong outlets a problem?

They indicate ungrounded circuits, which is common in this housing stock. Running a proper ground is best where feasible; a GFCI-protected replacement labeled "no equipment ground" is a code-compliant middle path. Swapping in a three-prong outlet with no actual ground is the one thing to avoid, and it is unfortunately common in homes that have changed hands a few times.

Does Lakewood permit through Jefferson County?

No. The City of Lakewood has its own building division. Only unincorporated addresses nearby go through the county, and we confirm which applies before filing.
